Memory Verse:
Exodus 3:14 (NIV)
I am has sent me
God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

Exodus 3:14 (ESV)
14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

This verse is from God’s encounter with Moses through the burning bush. Moses was called by God to deliver the people of Israel from captivity in Egypt. In verse 13, Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”  Verses 14 (the memory verse) is God’s response to Moses. God used the Hebrew verb “to be” to describe himself. By using this verb, God confirmed his existence and desire to be with Moses, and his desire to be with his people (Ex. 3:12). He wanted to know and be known by his people (Ex. 3:14-15). The personal name “Yahweh” comes from this verb (Ex. 3:15). It is translated as LORD (all in capital letters) in  English translations.
